ADVENTURE PLANNING

oN THIS PAGE YOU WILL FIND TIPS, TRICKS AND OTHER USEFUL INFORMATION FOR PLANNING YOUR ADVENTURE! WE WILL CONTINUE TO ADD AND UPDATE INFORMATION SO CHECK BACK OFTEN.

Here’s an overview picture of a map with key locations for the wedding and day before. These are also tagged on “Our Map”.

We are working on a couple group activities for the day before and day after the big day/night. June 20th and 22nd. Tuesday, June 20th we are planning a hike at Studlagil Canyon in the evening around 10pm. So if you want to join us plan to be in that area on the 20th. The 22nd will be something in the City of Seydisfjordur. So plan accordingly people!

Here’s a map of the studlagil area. DO not go to the west side lot!

  • You will be able to find almost anything you forget in the city of Reykjavik. We once made a stop during our fall trip to IKEA, bought a big comforter to use for the week. We then donated it back to the campervan - aka made it their problem when we were done with it. Oops.

    • Leggings x3 or x4

    • Pair of Jeans

    • Hiking Pants

    • 2-3 Long sleeve shirts

    • 2-3 Sweatshirts

    • Fleece Pullover

    • Hiking Boots

    • Wool Socks

    • Hats - 1 winter, 1 baseball

    • Gloves

    • Windbreaker

    • Rain Jacket

    • Swim Suit

    • Microfiber Shower Towel

    • Shower Shoes

  • While eating out can be really expensive in Iceland, buying groceries is comparable to the US.

We could find most things we wanted - took a little google translate help to figure out what certain things were.

Gas - We usually paid at the pump with a credit card.

Options at the pump: ‘1000ISK, 2000ISK etc.’ or ‘Fill-Up’

Don’t worry if you choose an amount you don’t use, it only pulls a deposit from your card but after a few minutes, only charges what you use.

We recommend having multiple card card options. Once in awhile it wouldn’t like a certain card (debit cards were not usually taken). We used both a Visa & a Master Card - no Amex :(

  • Here is a list of some items to consider bringing to Iceland:

    • Salt & Pepper

    • Seasonings - taco/ranch packets (think One Pot Meals)

    • Face Cleansing Wipes

    • Disinfectant Wipes

    • Selfie Stick/Tripod - don’t laugh, its a good suggestio

    • Bug Spray

    • Ranch Dressing - think I lied and you have to bring this. (Yes, Tanner we listed Ranch it twice.)

*Utensils/Pots/bowls etc. are all included with your campervan.

    • Extra Garbage Bags

    • Water

    • PepsiMax (Trust us!)

    • Paper Towels

    • Toilet Paper (Just a roll or two)

  • In the summer months, pending where you are on the island, many stores do not open early so we recommend having your own way to make it on the campervan.

The campervan place will ask if you want a coffee pot - its more of a thermos really. We were able to find coffee in packets + flavor + cream at the grocery store. That said, if you are a coffee snob, consider bringing your own.

    • One Pot Meals

    • Chicken Fajitas

    • Cheesy Potatoes & Broccoli

    • BLTs / Sandwiches

  • *Consider downloading your favorite podcasts/playlists for the trip ahead

*We usually have a movie or two downloaded for random down times or napping situations.

  • Actually, it is hard to feel any safer than here: Iceland is a country with one of the world’s lowest crime rates, ranking consecutively in 1st place on the Global Peace Index, and home to no animal predators dangerous to man.

Iceland is so safe in fact, a common practice is leave babies asleep in their strollers outside while parents go inside stores to shop.

  • Absolutely no dress code. Be comfortable and come as you are.

Space is limited, no need to pack anything special… Hiking gear is great!
