ANDY & KRISTIN ADVENTURE

TRAVEL PLANNING

Step 1 - choose your dates

The main airport KEF (Keflavik), is on the western side of Iceland. We are getting married about 9 hours away on the eastern side of the island near Seydisfjordur. We chose to get married on a Wednesday night so it gives you multiple days to adventure to and from.

Example trip: “Saturday to Saturday”

Campervan Rental: Saturday, June 17 - Saturday, June 24

Airline: Icelandair

Flight To Iceland:

Friday, June 16 - 7:25pm Depart from MSP to KEF.

Saturday, June 17 - Arrive at KEF airport at 6:30am

Flight Home:

Saturday, June 24 - 4:45pm Depart KEF to MSP, arrive at MSP at 6:10pm

step 2 - Book a campervan

Iceland is made for seeing by campervan & we highly recommend going this route because of the flexibility it allows. There are 100s of campsites with facilities all over the country that are on first come first serve basis & we’ve never had a problem finding a spot. All the campervans come with a refrigerator, stove & all the basics you may need to prepare meals.

Here are a couple links to campervan rentals in Iceland. Our first trip we booked a 4x4 with Happycampers. Second trip we booked a Mercedes Marco Polo with CampervanReykjavik. This trip we booked a Highlander with Cozy Campers. All of the campervan rental places will pick you up from the airport.

If you want to drive on the F-Roads (rural dirt roads) and cross rivers you will need to rent a 4x4 vehicle. You do NOT need a 4x4 vehicle or need to drive F-Roads to see pretty things as there are pretty things everywhere. But if you’re a bit more adventurous then maybe a 4x4 is for you!

All the insurance and add-ons can be added later or even when you pick up the van. Just get it reserved.

step 3 - book a flight

Icelandair is what we have flown both times and we suggest using them. If you know Kristin, you know she loves her Delta miles but Delta has been much more spendy - also Icelandair is AWESOME. We’ve had great experiences with them & their flexibility. For Icelandair, all flights from Minneapolis leave at 7:40pm and arrive in Iceland the next day at 6:30am. It is a 6 hour flight and 5 hour ahead time difference.

Also a nice tip for booking a campervan - if you are leaving from Minneapolis on Icelandair and book a flight on one day, book the campervan for the following day as you arrive in Iceland the day after you leave Minneapolis.

Pro Tip: Watch the “informational” videos on the flight to Iceland about Iceland - you won’t regret it.

step 4 - book an airbnb/vrbo

If you would like to stay in an Airbnb or VRBO for a portion of this trip you can too. One tip is that most of these rentals require a 4 night stay. So keep that in mind when booking. We are getting married on the other side of the island from the airport and main city of Reykjavik so plan accordingly.
